The dust is still settling but, we did it! We moved. It feels like we’ve been dreaming of this for a year and it’s finally come to fruition. And what a wonderful time to move! The weather is just perfect in Central Texas in Fall. Braden and I talked about places we wanted to live if our next career move wasn’t an option around the holidays last year and Austin was our number 1 pick. I know that some people may disagree and say that theatre is back and thriving and so is NYC! But the reality is, I’d like to figure out this new normal from somewhere a little more palatable and closer to home while we’re trying to plan a wedding. It just seemed to be the right move for us. And so far we’re loving it! Knowing that we’re going to spend at least our first few months of marriage in this apartment makes it all the more special.
The only real hiccup in what has seemed to be a perfect move (my parents and little brother who helped carry things up the 3rd floor walk-up may think otherwise) is the former tenant’s kitty cat closet… Not just the fact that we can definitely tell that the best storage closet in the apartment was home to all things kitty cat, but I am pretty severely allergic and have been trying to rearrange furniture, put away boxes of things and set-up my WFH space without having a sneezing fit or having my head explode from sinus pressure. Every rose has it’s thorn! We’ve invested in quite an array of allergen defense and “urine destroying” products to hopefully dispel the smell from the carpet in the closet and lessen my symptoms. I can only take so many doses of allergy medication and the sensible 2-a-day showers can only last so long! My skin is going to suffer next!
Face mask on, robed up, on the couch with Dominos Pizza was the only proper way to spend our first night in the new place! I was definitely hopped up on antihistamines in this photo but luckily the allergies have simmered down a bit now. I’m super excited about our adventure here. I miss performing dearly and I want to make that a priority here and hopefully on our own terms.
I can’t wait to share more soon.
XOXO,
Texas Jess
